SXSW Photo Review: Indie Orchestra Night 2

Indie Orchestra Night Poster

Indie Orchestra Night is a project led by Brent Baldwin, Artistic Director of the Texas Choral Consort, and composer Nathan Felix. It stands out as a rare kind of event in the ocean of branding and activations otherwise known as SXSW, one that holds a keen focus on music and the magic of artistic collaboration within its powerful air. The now annual event pairs together bands with an orchestra and a large choral group for an unique, rarely witnessed aural experience in the state of Texas. This year’s edition included Quiet Company, Ken Stringfellow (of R.E.M.), the Riverboat Gamblers, Danny Malone and more.

Almost every band that took the stage commented on the surreal experience of having so many musicians play and sing along to music they wrote. Their palpable excitement combined with the soaring score made for a moving and profound evening difficult to capture in any single frame, but that didn’t stop OVRLD’s resident sharpshooter Ashley Bradley from coming close.
