Here at OVRLD, we’ve covered Suite 709, the new local funky pop rock band to watch, before. Their catchy hooks and Funk-inspired grooves are catching on locally, nationally and internationally. Since we’ve covered them the first time, the guys have been very busy. They’ve toured in support of their recent release, Keys, checked out ACL and also had time to squeeze in a retreat to a Dripping Springs ranch to record new material.
Tonight Suite 709 are back in Austin and will be playing a free show after Colby Caillat’s set at Stubbs. At the show, they’ll be sharing with us some of their new ranch-recorded songs and I’m definitely looking forward to hearing them. Since they draw from a lot of different influences, I could see these guys going a lot of different ways for their next release. The band has definitely seen success with Keys but they’re looking to break out in an even bigger way with their next album.
For a sample of their sound, check out “She Don’t Even Know” below. I’m addicted to the piano melody and the chorus. Lyrically, the song is in line with the themes of “Is She Really Going Out with Him” and “Ya man ain’t me.” This song is off Keys which is actually available for free (with email) download at their site.

Slotted for 10:30pm the guys will be playing along with Deep Ella, a Houston-based band that has been likened to a hybrid of U2 and Peter Gabriel. Check them out at Stubbs tonight.
