The worst part about Ovrld’s SXSW showcase was realizing most of the acts weren’t local.
The betrayal of getting into new these bands and realizing the chances of seeing them again are slim, the odds of seeing them in this lineup again, nonexistent.
The evening started with more subdued sounds and a sparse but into it crowd at The Parish, that venue over the fried chicken place. Opening was the duo Michael: Who knew you could make clarinet, guitar and indie work, let alone work well? Things stayed intimate, the audience growing, through Haley Heynderickx and local Buck Meek (of Big Thief).
The lights dimmed, the crowd filled out, the night transitioned into the louder sounds of The Unlikely Candidates and, from Croatia and France respectively, Jonathan and Stuck In The Sound.
With South By over, we’re back to nights of familiar and new faces in the community that’s our little corner of the music world.
