Last week, we had the pleasure of catching doom pop ensemble Why? at Mohawk, as they toured to support their sprawling, contemplative new album Moh Lhean, joined by Brooklyn’s Eskimeaux, who sound like the best Postcard Records band that never was. Why? shows are notable for the way the band twists their delicately arranged studio work into something more spontaneous and visceral, electronic beats and keys joined by Yoni Wolf’s intense auxilary percussion and the band’s kaleidoscope harmonies. Nothing can truly replicate a Why? show but we hope Jake Dapper’s photos will give you a tantalizing sample of what the experience is like.
