Welp, it’s here again. The new era of the Austin music scene and the Red River District kicked-off this past Friday at Sidewinder — the bar that used to be Red Eyed Fly and that is supposed to be the new Red 7. It won’t be the same, but I know we’re all hoping it’ll still be good. The free party was accompanied by the music stylings of Borzoi and Drakulas. Unfortunately, A Giant Dog had to step off this one because of some health-complications. Borzoi killed it as always, and front-man Mike Wiebe of Drakulas (and Riverboat Gamblers) didn’t faint from bringing his on-stage craziness with him, but I think he was really on-point at the top of their set when he asked, “Aren’t you guys excited to finally be hanging out in a venue we’ve all been desperately avoiding for years?” Everyone cheered and chuckled in agreement. Nailed it.
