Earlier this week, we sent Joshua Kamnetz out to get some photos of Kaki King’s stop in Austin, with local favorite Roger Sellers opening. King’s publicist repeatedly informed us that King is “Dave Grohl’s favorite guitarist,” but anyone who has followed her career know her bonafides stretch far beyond that. Kaki King has collaborated with everyone from Tortoise’s John McEntire to Eddie Vedder on the soundtrack for Into the Wild and even once did an EP with the Mountain Goats, while also racking up accolades from Rolling Stone (she was the sole woman to make it on their list of New Guitar Gods in 2006) and a gig helping with the Twilight soundtrack. The unpredictable career trajectory King has carved out made Sellers a natural fit as an opener, with the Austinite defying expectations himself with his increasingly ambitious and adventurous albums, aided by the lush background art of Topher Sipes. We think the photos Joshua turned in from the show not only highlight the unique aesthetics of these two performers, but also showcase the excellence of Joshua’s own work, and we hope you will enjoy them as much as we do.
