I was excited as soon as I saw this line-up, because holy hell the stackage. I always love seeing BLXPLTN, Knifight and Toast Party, but I was mostly excited about seeing Gossamer Frontier for the first time and Botany featuring Sam Chown (from SHMU and Zorch) on drums. Both fucking killed it. It was cool to see the basically improv set by Botany and Sam — communication between the two during songs involved a lot of eye-contact and hand gestures. GF can best be described as mesmerizing. Their set seemed short and I’m not actually sure if it’s because they played a short set or because I feel into a loop where time didn’t exist. I wanna fall in that loop again and very much plan on seeing them a million more times. While this night involved so much good music, Daniel Francis Doyle really nailed it the hardest. I’ve seen that dude play multiple times, multiple different sets (acoustic solo, full band, etc.) but this time he played a loop set with a guitar and drum set. Several times I looked at people standing next to me in a “how did he do that?” fashion, unable to fathom how he was playing what he was playing. It seemed like magic. And you know what, it probably was.
