Exclusive Album Stream: Taft’s goodnight, plum

Taft Goodnight, Plum

Today we’re thrilled to bring you an exclusive stream of goodnight, plum, a dazzling new album by baroque indie act Taft. While goodnight, plum is Taft’s third album, it’s the artist’s debut for Cosmic Dreamer and a reinvention of sorts for his sound, bridging the angelic choirs of his church going youth and the southern gothicism of Roy Orbison at his darkest. Recorded as a live in-studio concert with minimal overdubbing, goodnight, plum is unfussed over yet still majestic and serene, like some time adrift merger of Willa Cather and Lambchop. The album’s writing took place “in grain silos in Vermont and mountain hideaways in California,” and that restless American spirit presents itself in everything from Taft’s wandering, romantic vocals to the eclectic instrumentation with its digressions into jazz and folk textures along with more plaintive indie elements. We think you’ll agree that goodnight, plum is a magnificent work by an ambitious and bold artist who is only going to grow stronger, so give it a listen and be sure to head out to Estuary Recording Facility on Thursday, March 7th for the official release show:
