Electropop sirens SIGNY are at the vanguard of the Austin pop scene, making music that’s powerful in its rhythmic intensity as well as in its themes. Their new single “Water,” from the upcoming album of the same name, is no exception. A 21st century update on the story of Ophelia, “Water” has the tragic young woman rising up from her watery grave to get revenge on everyone who gaslit and suffocated her. SIGNY explain that the song is “about the selves many of us have sent to their watery graves coming back to life,” but they manage to make that heady subject matter go down easy, with brassy, bass-heavy verses and a fist pumping chorus that gives way to a breezy and hopeful bridge that highlights the duo’s impeccable harmonies. Check it out for yourself below and be sure to catch SIGNY on August 24th at Empire Control Room!
