It’s been about five years since Sertified put out “Back 2 the Block,” arguably the definitive Austin rap single of the 2010s (it clocked in at #6 on our list of the 100 best Austin songs of the decade for a reason) and while Sertified’s releases since then have skewed a little more pop, we haven’t been able to resist the need for some kind of follow-up. So shout out to Dominican Jay for putting together “Dirty Money,” a track that rivals “Back 2 the Block” in its star power and gritty might. Joined by Sertified as well as $.Dot and the Click Clack-led production outfit Ballteam, “Dirty Money” is closer in tone and theme to the J Dilla cuts of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II than the RZA grime of “Back 2 the Block,” with Jay and co. running through schemes and hustles over a staggering beat where the melodic hook comes from what sounds like a dying siren.
