A while back we wrote up Siren, the debut EP of a band called Carry Illinois, praising its inventiveness and making note of the band as one that could develop into something great. They reached out to this week to tell us about their new album Alabaster, with bandleader Lizzy Lehman commenting that it’s “an album that means a lot to me in terms of my personal growth and journey in professional music throughout the past seven years.” Lehman added that she “wrote the album throughout a serious bout of depression, a difficult band break up, and witnessed a friend lose her father and another separate from his longtime girlfriend.” The result is an album that has tremendous heart and depth, functioning like a missing link between Lambchop and Belle & Sebastian. When the band asked if we would like to host an online “listening” party for it, we were happy to say yes. And as an added bonus, we have a giveaway of a CD and vinyl copy of the album. All you have to do is comment here or on our Twitter or Facebook.
