Occupying the underexplored space between Americana and dream pop, Calico Blue are a distinctly Austin band, all subtle twang and weirdness and intoxication. You can’t get a handier representation of that than their new video for their song “Ace,” co-directed by John Bergin and Ali DeRosas, with its kaleidoscopic and blurry VHS effects. It’s less dreamy than it is insomniac, the sort of visual unease you get from staring at the walls in hopes that sleep might come, while fearing it already did and you’re in some sort of consciousness limbo. Take a peek if you dare, but don’t go too deep or you may never return:
