Dreamy shoegaze ensemble Wildfires have returned from a four-year hiatus with the appropriately spooky “Belongs to the Night.” The track leans into the spacy qualities of Wildfires’ music with the addition of mission control samples and rocket launches behind the shimmering guitars and cymbals, eventually building up to anthemic walls of noise over a dancey beat. The band was inspired by their fondness for the occult and UFOs, specifically the idea of the UFO as a “backdrop into existentialism, more of a psychedelic experience than a nuts and bolts aliens and spaceships thing.” For the video, director Raphael Umscheid plays up that psychedelic experience, splicing together scenes of a lone skateboarder riding around a seemingly empty city, getting absorbed into the light, with performance footage of the band at Hotel Vegas. Check it out for yourself at our premiere below, and keep an ear out for the band’s upcoming self-titled full length LP!
