Exclusive Video Premiere: Ruby and the Reckless “Rainbows”

Austin fiddle virtuouso Ruby Jane has reinvented herself as the leader of the Reckless, a band described as “a psych-jamming, darkly optimistic, alt-hooky, fiddlin’ mind fuck,” which naturally caught the attention of superstar producer Frenchie Smith. Together they’ve been working on a new EP called In My Head, due out in September, but to pique your interest we’ve got the premiere of the video for lead off single “Rainbows.” The Reckless’ own Austin Simmons directs the band’s debut video as a kaleidoscopic showcase for the band and a group of dancers choreographed by Ally Holt. It’s a bit like a Cirque du Soleil event directed by Drive auteur Nicolas Winding Refn, only more hopeful and poppy. And we’re sure that it’s going to help Ruby and the Reckless take off in a big way, following in the footsteps of similarly ambitious and addictive locals Wild Child. But check it out for yourself and let us know what you think:
