Austinite JunioR explores some heady concepts in his new single “Thank You,” featuring LNS Crew star Kydd Jones. RobG’s video for the track opens with a quote by Glenn Cook about the nature of good versus evil, cutting to JunioR and crew on a rooftop looking out on our city, questioning the fate ascribed to some of his peers. “I don’t think we were born to sling dope and die,” JunioR argues before proceeding to “Thank the man I never had to bake a gram.” “Thank You” isn’t a condemnation of street hustle, though, it’s more of an introspective examination of what we’re told we should set our sights on versus what we deserve to achieve, and the video offers its own commentary on this, splitting time between JunioR’s rooftop monologues and scenes of kids playing games, friends hanging out and other less exciting but no less desirable futures while its bittersweet beat plays. It’s a heartfelt and profound work that showcases JunioR’s ability to dig deeper than your average emcee. You can pick up the Ralph JunioR EP now on iTunes.
