Austin quintet Whalers has been around for a few years now – we even covered their 2012 EP, Bon Vivant. At that time, we referred to them as a “surf-rock” group, but now they’ve broadened out their sound a bit into a full-on, driving rock that makes us excited for the release of Submarine Sun in April.
For now, though, you’ll have to be content with this live video of their lead single from Submarine Sun, “Battleships.” You can check out the band in action, and is it us or does singer Gus Smalley do his best impression of The Killers’ Brandon Flowers here? (Vocally…he might need a bit more make-up for the physical impersonation.)
