One of the great things about being in and around the Austin music scene is that there is a palpable sense of community amongst everybody. You recognize people at shows, and you run into musicians everywhere. People collaborate on records, shows and events. That sense of community is one reason I was so excited to be approached by Oscillation Records in the service of helping promote their new Versus Project. Here is a bit from their press release:
“Versus Project, to be released on Oscillations Records, is a box set that will feature 6 great Austin bands each interpreting a Borrisokane track and releasing a brand new original single. Borrisokane will be covering one song from each of the other bands and releasing an EP of their own new original music. All of this will be tied to the amazing photo collages of Shawn Magill, which we have started teasing on the project’s website along with the first teaser track from the series, The Baker Family’s awesome take of Borrisokane’s ‘Sinking Catalina.’ Whether the release will be digital-only or a CD box set will be contingent on a Kickstarter we will be launching January 31 to gauge demand for a physical release.
Our main goal with this release is to foster a collaborative creative community between some of Austin’s best local bands and to build awareness for these great musicians by collaborating on this ambitious project.”
Keep an eye out for their upcoming Kickstarter Project, which hopes to fund a full 6-disc box set for release on April 22nd.
And here is the new track from Knifight – a cover of Borrisokane’s “Victoria Please:”
Knifight - 'Victoria Please'You’ll notice that there is not any digital synths or programming, as that is something Knifight is moving away from.
And for comparison, here is the Borrisokane original:
