Carson McHone has been racking up accolades for the past few years from peers like Ray Wylie Hubbard and it’s easy to see why: the local singer-songwriter is gifted with a timeless voice and a talent for crafting impossibly beautiful songs. McHone recently finished a tour with Gary Clark Jr. and has been hard at work recording a new album in Nashville thanks in part to the Black Fret grant money she was awarded earlier this year, and now she’s about to be on the road again, but in the meantime we’ve got a special video for you of her performing her song “How ‘Bout It” with Sam Kossler accompanying her on an old piano. The original version of “How ‘Bout It” is sweet and tender, featuring finger picked acoustic guitar instead of a piano, but this performance, captured by Chris Brecht, is imbued with a sense of sorrow and loss that brings out an even more profound emotional resonance than the original. McHone’s voice is perfect for a setting like this, with no distractions and no barriers to stand between you and the raw emotion she draws out in every breath. Be sure to catch Carson McHone this Saturday, June 24th at the White Horse before she heads back out on tour (see below for more tour dates).
