A couple weeks back we kicked off a contest asking readers to remix Bateau’s track “Circles,” with the winner receiving an opening slot on an upcoming, TBA Austin Mic Exchange Presents show and let me tell you, it was tough to narrow it down to a top 5. But because we’re professionals, we persevered and have crowned our five choices for you readers to vote on to determine our final winner. All you have to do to vote is comment on this page or the Facebook post or Tweet your choice at us by Thursday, September 10th. So, who made it into the top 5?
GHESTS was our furthest traveling entrant, hailing from Nashville. He made it into our top 5 with a glitchy, downtempo take on “Circles,” hinting at some late-era Anticon influence:
Retr05pect, one half of hip hop duo Retr0gRaDe, turned in an especially seductive remix of “Circles,” recalling Bateau’s more trip hop-influenced material.
Visual Visions took things in a different direction, offering up a dubstep interpretation of “Circles,” providing probably the most unhinged remix out of all the entries
no1mportant went hazy, dreaming up a syrup-y pop rendition of “Circles,” focusing on the hopeful aspects of Bateau’s ode to youthful ambition
Anom of Slop Musket went in the opposite direction, honing in on the claustrophobic elements of those same ambitions, crafting something grimy and ferocious
Thanks to everyone who entered!
