River Jones reached out to us earlier this week about premiering a video from his new project Alta Violet and we immediately jumped on it. “Pass the Time” is a curious hybrid of Elliott Smith and My Bloody Valentine, melodic and bittersweet but also jagged and rambunctious. The video is another hybrid, splicing together trippy footage of River with home movies, creating a churning mix of memories and more enigmatic sensation. River told us the band is named after his grandmother, so the memory effect makes sense, but there’s also a family connection in the friends River called on to help with the song, bringing together David Thayer of Little Tornados and Laetitia Sadier for back-up vocals and Christopher Cox from Abram Shook and Dana Falconberry’s backing band for bass.
