Just Ask the Axis Showcase: Politics

We’re definitely excited over here about the upcoming Just Ask The Axis show which we’re co-sponsoring with Kindform, ultra8201, Vesper Mag and Axis Productions. The lineup includes some of the brightest up-and-coming bands from Austin and the surrounding areas. Carter let you know about A Sky Jet Black yesterday and I wanted to share with y’all a preview of Politics.

These guys are a relatively new band having played for a couple years together and, after a good amount of anticipation, releasing their debut EP back in September of last year. Cities was met with widespread acclaim from our local blog brethren including: ultra201 and Republic of Austin. And I have to agree with these guys, I like their sound a lot. They’ve drawn comparisons to Foals, Two Door Cinema Club and math rockers and I can definitely hear that. But after a few listens through their EP I started hearing their Interpol influence come out.

I’m always a sucker for multi-layered guitar riffs and Politics seem to have mastered these. On their 5 track, the 4 piece puts down danceable beats and layers melodic riffs over the top on some songs and prefer to bring the tempo down and create brooding soundscapes on others. Highlights for me on the album come when all of the moving parts approach a complex crescendo. Check out my favorite track from the EP below.

‘Politics’ - On Our Way

You can pick up Politics’ Cities for free on Bandcamp. Also, check out a compilation on SoundCloud of most of the bands playing the show here. I hope y’all come out on Saturday. It’s going to be a great time. There is no cover for the show  and food will be provided by the SaySheAte Food Truck. Stay tuned for more show previews throughout the week.
